The development of an innovative midwife training concept through cooperation between University of Applied Siences Osnabrueck and the midwifery school, Klinikum Osnabrueck GmbH

The research served as an example of how participants from colleges, universities and clinical practice can successfully work together. Following an action research aproach, a joint training module for support of the physiological aspects of birth was designed and tested on a model basis in a multi-stage process (planning, activity, observation and reflection).

The aim was to achieve the systematic, networking transfer of knowledge between theory and practice as well as to communicate evidence-based clinical treatment competence that is required for the provision of women- and family-oriented care in birth.

In addition, a group discussion, conducted in the research project, allowes for the determination of the structure and content required to raise vocational training to academic level.
